Which table belongs in your layout? A coffee table is the anchor when the sofa faces a TV wall in a living room 3m or wider — you need a surface within reach of every seat, with at least 400mm of clearance between cushion edge and table edge. Side tables make sense when the room is narrower (under 3m) and a full coffee table would block the walkway, or when an armchair sits away from the main sofa cluster and needs its own surface for a lamp or drink. A console table pays off in homes with an open-plan living-dining zone — the slim 300–350mm depth fits behind a sofa as a soft divider, or along an entry wall as a drop zone, without eating into usable floor.
