Bed frame sizes in Malaysia. Plan by the mattress size you already own or intend to buy — the frame and mattress must match exactly:

• Single — 91 × 191 cm, fits kids' rooms, guest rooms and small second bedrooms.

• Super Single — 107 × 191 cm, the middle ground for a single adult who wants more space; popular for teen rooms and studio apartments.

• Queen — 150-152 × 191 cm, the default choice for main bedrooms in most Malaysian condos and apartments.

• King — 180-183 × 191 cm, for master bedrooms with at least 3.5m of wall length for the bed and 500mm clearance on each side.

Frame materials and what they suit. Upholstered frames — fabric, bouclé or leather/PU headboards — bring warmth and softness to a bedroom and double as reading support; ideal for main bedrooms. Wooden bed frames age well, handle Malaysian humidity with proper finishing, and carry heavier mattresses without flex. Modern bed frame designs lean toward platform (low-profile, no box spring) — they dominate the current market and pair with latex, foam and hybrid mattresses directly on the slats. Divan vs Platform. A platform frame sits low on slats — no box spring, clean lines, direct mattress support. A divan is a fully-upholstered base, usually with built-in drawer or gas-lift storage and a softer look. FRWD's range is platform-led for modern bedrooms. If you are comparing the two, the key difference is the base: a platform frame lets the mattress breathe on open slats, while a divan encloses it in an upholstered box that adds height and a softer profile.

Mattress compatibility and slat spacing. FRWD bed frames use slats at 70–80 mm spacing, which supports latex, memory foam and hybrid mattresses without a separate foundation or box spring. Thicker mattresses (250 mm / 10" is the Malaysian norm) sit well on these frames and reach a comfortable edge-sit height of 550–600 mm. If you are pairing a new frame with an existing mattress, confirm the mattress depth so the frame sides do not swallow the mattress visually, and check the frame's maximum weight rating against the mattress plus intended occupants.

Storage planning. Platform frames with integrated storage drawers give 100–120 litres of under-bed storage per drawer — useful in Malaysian condos where wardrobe space is tight. Frames with gas-lift or hydraulic storage lift the entire base on a piston mechanism, giving access to a single large compartment underneath — better for bulky items like bedding sets or suitcases. If under-bed storage is not a priority, a clean-line platform frame reads visually lighter and makes the bedroom feel larger. Upholstered frames rarely offer storage but add the comfort of a padded headboard for reading in bed.
